Well it’s officially summer, in the desert at least. Temperatures reached 105 degrees for the 7th round of WSMC and the newly paved pit area didn’t really make things better. This month I just came out for the Sunday 600 Singles race so I got to the track first thing in the morning to set up and get some warm up laps in before it was time to line up.
If they gave away a trophy for bogging the start I think I would have got 1st in that. As I lugged my way to speed the 5 man grid flew past me especially Paul Merwin who got a lightning start. As usual I had to work my way to the front which I did by about the second lap or so. I made it into 2nd but Paul was out of sight and I knew Mike Blankenship and Michael Gougis on his newly acquired MZ were close on my heels. I had to keep it together and put my head down to make sure I bring it home in 2nd which I was able to do but I later found out the guys behind me were close as they battled for 3rd.
It was a warm one this round but no matter I love it hot, cold, dry or wet actually I take it back on the wet. I have some work to do on my starts and lap times to keep up with Paul and I can’t wait to dice it up with Blankenship and Gougis next month. Thanks everyone who came out to help and watch and of course all my sponsors.

I already knew the 6th round of WSMC at the Streets course wasn’t going to be easy. This track is not a favorite of mine but I didn’t know my biggest problem was going to be Jack Baker and Paul Merwin who were flying in morning practice. Not to mention Mike Blankenship who I’ve been fighting with for points all year was also ridding really well.
The start of the race was where all the action happen. I got a bad start but not as horrible as Mike Blankenship’s who before this race I was only 1 point ahead of. Blankenship stalled his bike at the start and couldn’t re-start it for the life of him. While that was happening I was slotted into 4th position and stayed there for pretty much the whole time and rode a lonely race while Jack and Paul flew away in the front. I was really lucky that Mike stalled his bike because his morning practice times were well ahead of mine so that meant he could easily put his bike in front in the race and not to mention it was a double point weekend so I could have been in trouble. After the checkered flag came out though that put me ahead by 7 points and I was able to keep the lead in the 660 Singles championship.
Although it was a rough day I still had a blast of course. Also it was great my dad came down from Sacramento to check out the race and hang out for Fathers Day. Thanks again Andy for sharing the trailer (don’t worry you’ll get them next time) and congrats to Jack and Paul for ridding an incredible race.

This past weekend marked the 5th round of WSMC, most of all this past weekend marked my chance to make up for a horrible start in the previous round. The weather was great besides the famous Willow Springs wind showing up mid day but that should be expected out there. Something unexpected though was my new friend Paul Merwin showing up on his newly acquired Suzuki RMZ 450 Supersingle. While this weekend was spent getting comfortable with the bike in no time Paul will be out there giving me trouble which I’m sure you will be reading about in future posts.
I got a better start in the 660 Singles race compared to last month but I still have a lot a work to do in that department. I crawled to a go as everyone rushed past me, by turn 1 I was dead last. I knew there was a lot of work to do and it needed to be taken care of as soon as possible to make sure there was any hope of getting up front. Made my way through a few people on the outside of the nice long and wide turn 2 of Willow Springs and then a couple more on the inside of 3. I than had my sights locked onto Mike Blankenship the only problem was there was a vintage Ducati in my way. Blankenship was lightening fast this weekend and there was no sign of him slowing down. After quite a few failed attempts to get past the Ducati I finally made a pass that stuck, fortunately Blankenship didn’t get too far away. We went back and forth a few times, Mike was really strong through turns 3, 4 and 5 but I had some speed on him through the rest of the track. By the last lap I got my bike ahead and was able to get away to score 1st place.
Next month’s WSMC is headed back to the Streets course which I had some trouble with last time, so I’m excited to get a chance to redeem myself. Thanks everyone for a great day at the track and helping out in the pits and as always thank you to all my sponsors.
